Find out where the blur comes from
| What you see | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| The whole image is soft, but the print looks sharp in your hand | Camera shake, missed focus, or a low scan setting | Rescan or rephotograph the print flat, in better light, at a higher setting. |
| Blocky squares or smeared edges | Heavy compression from screenshots or messaging apps | Look for the original print or an earlier digital copy. |
| The face is soft but the background is sharp | The person moved, or focus missed them when the photo was taken | Nothing recovers this. Consider a different photograph. |
| The face turns to mush when you zoom in | Too few pixels on the face | Scan the print at a higher setting if you have it; otherwise choose a closer photo. |
| A bright haze across part of the photo | Reflection or glare | Change the angle of the light or the camera and try again. |
Will a blurry photo be accepted?
The automatic check on our page only tests file type, file size, and the 512-pixel minimum. It cannot judge sharpness, so a soft photo can pass it. A person reviews the photograph after payment. If we cannot produce an acceptable result, even after the included retry, we refund that film’s purchase value.
If you are unsure, email us before ordering and describe the photograph. It is better to talk first than to pay for a film the source cannot support.
