Before you open the editor
- Download the MP4 from your private order page and save it with a clear name.
- Note its length: five or ten seconds.
- Remember it is silent. Any music on the slideshow will play over it.
- Decide where it belongs in the story before you start dragging things around.
In iMovie on a Mac, iPhone, or iPad
Apple’s instructions cover adding photos and video clips to a project, arranging them, and exporting the result. In outline:
- Create a new movie project.
- Add the still photographs and the portrait MP4 from your library or files.
- Drag the clips into the order you want on the timeline.
- Play the section around the portrait to check pacing.
- Export or share the finished movie as a video file.
In Clipchamp
Microsoft’s guides describe importing media into a project and editing on the timeline. In outline:
- Import the photos and the portrait MP4 into your project’s media.
- Drag them onto the timeline in order.
- Trim the start or end of a clip if needed by dragging its edge.
- Preview, then export the video.
Menus and buttons change between versions of both apps, so follow the current help pages linked below if something looks different.
Where the portrait fits best
- Show the still photograph first, then the animated version, so viewers see what the movement came from.
- Let the clip play at its full length. Slowing or speeding it up can make generated movement look less natural.
- Avoid looping it several times in a row. Repeating the same generated gesture draws attention to it.
- Add a short caption such as “Animated from a 1950s photograph with AI”.
