PHOTO GUIDE · A WEDDING PHOTO IN MOTION

A wedding photograph, with a moment of movement.

For a milestone anniversary, a short animated version of a wedding photograph can be a gift that sits alongside the framed print. It is also personal enough that a surprise is not welcome for everyone, so plan who to ask as carefully as which photo to use.

Choosing the photograph

  • A portrait of the couple, with both faces clear, usually works better than a large formal group.
  • Both people facing roughly toward the camera give the animation the most to follow.
  • Veils, hats, and glasses are fine, but reflections and shadows over the eyes make faces harder to follow.
  • Hands holding a bouquet or showing a ring are lovely in a still photo. Asking them to move is where errors are most likely, so a quieter movement is the safer choice.

Surprise them, or ask first?

If both partners are living, consider quietly asking one of them, or a close family member, whether the couple would enjoy seeing an animated version. If one partner has died, the surviving partner may feel strongly either way. Showing them privately first is kinder than a reveal in front of guests.

Whatever you decide, tell them what it is before they watch: a few seconds of movement created by AI from the photograph, not footage from the day.

On the dayShow the print first, then the film.

These timings are suggestions for a relaxed plan, not delivery commitments.

Ways to present it

  • On a tablet or phone beside the framed original.
  • As one moment inside an anniversary slideshow. The steps in adding a clip to a slideshow work for any occasion.
  • Sent privately to the couple with a short note explaining how it was made.

Five or ten seconds for a couple?

Two faces share the movement. Ten seconds gives more room for a gradual change, such as a glance and a smile, while five seconds suits one quiet moment. Neither length guarantees a particular gesture. Five or ten seconds compares them in detail.
